1QL-25 leaking Clear View PortJul 24, 2012
By A. Kirk
I've had 3 of the QL-25 UV filters. The price paid has ranged from under $100 to over $200 for the same item. The problem I've had is with the "Clear View Port" in the cover. It's a good concept, but poorly executed. The clear plastic port material is very brittle and weak, and it's impossible to tighten the port enough to prevent leaks without breaking it. The last episode I had was a disaster with hundreds of gallons of water leaking out through the broken port while I was absent. Part of the problem is that the threads in the clear port and the hole in the cover don't match. The cover hole is too large (or the port is too small). Also, the cover is very thin where the port screws in, and the o-ring seal is a hard durometer. Bad design. Summary: don't buy this item as it's prone to leakage when you're not around.
